MBK and Associates is your WNY leader in tax efficient retirement income strategies. We pride ourselves on being the best at what we do, always growing and evolving, and helping others achieve their goals. Part of that passion comes from a lifetime of competition and coaching. Mark Kostrzewski, our leader and founder of MBK and Associates Inc. is a passionate professional, but what you may not know is Mark also is a passionate competitor AND coach! Known around the WNY rowing community as none other than “Coach K,” we were proud to be a part of this weekend’s event that kicked off a new era for the Buffalo Scholastic Rowing Association.

A Long Time Coming

The BSRA is a 501(c)3, membership-based, community educational and recreational facility located along the Buffalo river. As the organization has grown, a void was filled this weekend as many came together to celebrate the new state-of-the-art rowing facility. It took a few years, but with the help of Western New York and a tight knit community we have ourselves a boathouse!

16,000 Sq Feet & Counting

On Saturday the immaculate new facility was unveiled to the public, as hundreds of Buffalonians came together in celebration. It’s been since 2009 when Mark and BSRA broke ground on bringing a new boathouse to the Buffalo River. Ellicott Development chairman Carl Paladino donated the land that the boathouse sits on, and the Launch’21 event commemorated and dedicated the building to his son, Patrick Paladino, who died in a car accident back in 2009. There are already plans to expand, including a full-service gym and remediating 250 feet of docks on the waterfront.

Mark knows the value of the sport, and that’s exactly why he’s advocating for the community to come together and get ROWING. The boathouse currently houses three high school teams, but the BSRA welcomes rowers of all ages, skill levels and backgrounds! If you’re interested in trying out rowing, the BSRA is letting community members try it for free on August 28th!

“Let’s bring people to the water, get them involved with the sport, get them involved with the environment, get them involved with the community. That’s the name of the game,” Kostrzewski said.
